Understanding Veneers with Capriles Dental

Join Dr. B from Capriles Dental as we explore veneers, from understanding the differences between veneer options to the application process.

What are veneers?

Dr. B: Veneers are thin shells made of either composite resin or porcelain, also called zirconia, that are custom-designed to fit over the front surface of teeth. They're used to improve the appearance of teeth by addressing issues like discoloration, chips, or gaps.

What are the differences between composite and porcelain veneers?

Dr. B: Composite veneers are made of a tooth-colored resin material directly bonded to the teeth. They're often more affordable than porcelain veneers and can be applied in a single visit. On the other hand, porcelain veneers are crafted in a dental lab and then bonded to the teeth. They are more durable and stain-resistant compared to composite veneers.

Is one option cheaper than the other?

Dr. B: Yes. Composite resin is less expensive to produce and can be applied chairside, reducing labor costs. Porcelain veneers are better quality and are custom-made in a lab, involving more time and craftsmanship, hence the higher price tag.

Which option do you believe is the best choice for patients?

Dr. B: It depends on various factors, including the patient's budget, their oral health, and their aesthetic goals. Both composite and porcelain veneers can deliver excellent results when done correctly. However, porcelain veneers are often preferred for their natural appearance and longevity. They mimic the translucency and sheen of natural teeth more accurately than composite veneers. They're also more resistant to staining, a significant advantage for many patients.

Can you share some experiences with applying veneers to patients?

Dr. B: We focus on natural-looking veneers, steering clear of the “chiclet” effect, where veneers appear bulky and not harmonious to the patients’ face. We apply veneers to enhance their smiles while preserving their natural teeth as much as possible. Witnessing how veneers boost our patients’ confidence is truly rewarding.

Describe the process of getting veneers.

Dr. B: First, we'll conduct a complete dental evaluation to assess the patient's oral health and discuss their goals. If veneers are deemed suitable, we'll prepare the teeth by removing a thin enamel layer to accommodate them.

After that, we'll take impressions of the teeth, serving as the blueprint for the veneers. While the permanent porcelain veneers are fabricated in the dental lab, temporary veneers are placed to protect the teeth.

Once the veneers are ready, we'll carefully bond them to the teeth using a special adhesive. We'll make adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit and natural appearance.

Veneers offer a versatile solution for enhancing smiles. At Capriles Dental, we focus on aesthetics and creating results that seamlessly integrate with the patient's natural teeth, reflecting our doctor's expertise in the field.
